Workplace Culture 🎉

  • Fully-remote

    1. Mission-Driven

EXAMPLE: Our team is made of many talented individuals who come from several telecommunications companies and have first-hand experienced the struggles of this static and antiquated industry.  We use these experiences to deeply empathize with our customers and motivate us everyday to make Lightyear a driving force for change in telecom.

    2. Competitive

EXAMPLE: We’re here to win in a competitive field of new entrants and legacy players, many of whom have been around longer than us and are far larger than us. Our culture is built around orienting people toward the highest levels of performance and motivates teammates to perform better every single day.

    3. Quirky

EXAMPLE: Lightyear has several unusual engagement activities like superlatives awards with funny scripts, annual team karaoke battles, odd internal competitions with even odder team names (Barbie Gingerbread Dreamhouse building competition as an example!), dad joke-offs before meetings, and much more! Our team loves Lightyear as much for these activities and team bonding events as they do the mission itself.

  • Leadership at Lightyear has been responsible and deliberate with values-oriented company culture building from the very beginning of Lightyear. Dennis, Lightyear’s CEO, put together a list of six values that represent Lightyear’s core cultural tenets in the first year of the company’s founding, and revisits / audits these values annually. Lightyear leadership utilize these values to model their own behavior, guide recruiting decisions, and think through internal strategy. These values include maintaining the mentality of a professional sports team (to drive a mission-driven, highly competitive, performance culture), embracing The Beginner’s Mind (to stay humble always in the face of audacious challenges), and that transparency breeds trust (to ensure that a culture of honesty and transparency bolsters performance from the top of the company to the bottom). Emphasis on these values have helped drive a very cohesive, egoless, but performance-driven culture at Lightyear since inception.    In addition, leadership at Lightyear makes a point to encourage emphasis on each team member’s quirkiness and individuality. Team members enjoy monthly engagement activities like odd game show style events, internal annual superlative awards, scavenger hunts, annual April Fool’s jokes, and much more.

  • Lightyear utilizes a performance management software called Lattice that gives employees the opportunity to publicly shout out others in the organization for a job well done or the impressive completion of a task.  Employee ‘praises’ are posted on Slack for the team to see and can be seen under the employee’s Lattice profile to be utilized for performance reviews in the future.  Recognition is also shared during our semi-monthly teamwide calls and on Slack via our “Friday Weekly Win’s” posts that highlights employees for going above and beyond.  Another avenue of recognition that we have developed at Lightyear is Employee Spotlights where we feature a new employee every few weeks to get to know eachother better and share fun facts about one another.  This is a fun way for the team to learn new things about each other that is not necessarily work related.    Lightyear also prioritizes high-quality 1-on-1 feedback and career development with a rigorous performance evaluation process that helps employees be seen for things they do well, and get better in areas of development. Employees are also provided with significant advancement opportunities within the organization, with promotions announced quarterly to the entire company for employees who receive them.
