Collaborative: Odyssians love to problem solve - together. You can always count on someone to take a few minutes to troubleshoot or brainstorm with you. One of our core values is “Teamwork” and that comes to life through everyone’s eagerness to collaborate. Creative: Our mission is to bring clean energy to hundreds of millions of people who currently don’t have any power. This requires creativity and innovation across the lifecycle of solar project development. A big focus for us in financial innovation, working with solar companies and investors to make the financings of these projects easier. At Odyssey, everyone’s ideas on how we can innovate to accomplish our mission are welcome. Passionate: Odyssians are united in our passion and drive to accomplish our mission. Many of our employees are based in Africa and grew up in communities with little to no power. They are singularly focused on making sure future generations have an easier path. We also have employees who have dedicated their entire careers to solving the climate challenge, now they are at Odyssey because they see the huge potential for impact.

One of Odyssey’s core tenets is that each person is responsible for promoting and maintaining culture. As a fully distributed team, we know that each person’s contributions matter more than they would in an in-person company. That being said, leadership plays an important role in a few ways: consistently highlighting our core values during weekly presentations that happen on a rotating schedule, regular employee recognition – often tied to a core value – in Slack and during weekly meetings, recognizing when someone on their team is having a hard time and taking appropriate action to ensure they feel supported by Odyssey.

We have a few employee recognition programs: A “Shoutouts” Slack channel where employees can give each other kudos at any time. In any given week 10-20 shoutouts are given. We also spend 5 minutes at the end of each weekly meeting to do verbal shoutouts. We track shoutouts, in an effort to ensure everyone is recognized Bi-annual performance review and compensation review sessions, giving all employees the opportunity to be recognized for their achievements through promotions and pay increases An annual “core value champion” vote where employees nominate peers for their contributions for each of our five core values. Based on peer input, we select five “Core Value Champions” (one for each core value), plus an “Overall Champion.” Winners receive cash prizes
